all the reasons why I love Who Gives A Crap toilet paper
Since going zero waste, finding a toilet paper option that I felt good about has been challenging. I’ve been looking for a sustainable toilet paper option for a while and was delighted when Who Gives A Crap, asked me to review their recycled toilet paper. Because I genuinely like the products and also believe in their mission, I decided to share my opinion with you.
50% of profits are donated to help build toilets in developing countries!
Can you imagine living in the 21st century and not having a toilet? Unfortunately, for many people it is the reality. When the founders of Who Gives A Crap learned that 2.5 billion (it’s now 2.3 billion!) people in the world didn’t have access to a toilet, they decided to launch Who Gives A Crap with a crowdfunding campaign. To date, Who Gives A Crap has donated a total of $1.2m Australian dollars (that’s the equivalent of over $950,000!) to their charity partners WaterAid, Sanergy, Shining Hope for Communities and Lwala Community Alliance.
5 things I like about Who Gives A Crap:
1. UNBOXING
The first thing you notice when unboxing the toilet paper is a beautiful variety of colors that can really brighten up your day. The inner packaging is entirely plastic free, unlike other toilet paper brands that claim to be eco-friendly, but then wrap the TP in plastic.
2. PACKAGING
As a designer I can truly appreciate these playful aesthetics of the plastic free wrappers. Bright colors, minimal logo and joyous graphics can really cheer up your bathroom routines. What’s more, the company is really transparent about their business. You can read about all of the amazing things they do on each wrapper.
The only downside is a small plastic trash that comes from a strip of plastic tape on top of the box. They are currently looking for a plastic free alternative and I believe as soon as they find transit-resistant option they will switch it up.

3. PAPER
When you order a box of 48, one roll of Who Gives A Crap Recycled TP costs 1 dollar. It is a very reasonable price when you consider that you receive a 3 ply roll of 400 sheets which is double length, so it lasts twice as long. 48 rolls is a lot to get for a small apartment but you can always get a smaller package of 24 plus the rolls look great displayed on your bathroom shelf.
4. UPCYCLING
Artsy packaging can go a long way. Rather than sending the wrappers to recycling, have fun with them! I collected some creative ideas for you:
I turned Who Gives A Crap cardboard rolls into my new hair-curlers.
They work great with some bobby pins.
5. FUN TO GIVE
I had never gifted a toilet paper before, until my good friend came to visit and she noticed the lovely wrappers of Who Gives A Crap. She really loved the packaging and was curious about the quality. Gifting rolls was a really fun idea and a great way for my friends to try it.
Least but not last,
these facts will definitely get you on board:
2.3 billion people across the world don't have access to a toilet
More people in the world have a mobile phone than a toilet
50% of profits are donated to help build toilets in developing countries
Around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. That's almost 800 children per day, or one child every two minutes.
Since 1990, nearly a third of the current global population has gained access to an improved sanitation facility (that’s 2.1 billion people which is amazing)

For me, buying Who Who Gives A Crap is a no brainer.
You have to buy toilet paper anyway, so why not buy TP that does so much good?
